Answers To Hold ‘em Poker Hand Trivia: Hands With Aces Or Kings

Here are the answers to part two of my four part series on Hold ‘em poker hand nickname trivia.

Hands with an ace:

A K  “Big Slick” or “Anna Kournikova” because it looks great but hardly ever wins.

AK suited  “Big slick in a suit”

A Q  “Big Chick” or “Little Slick”

A J  “Blackjack” or “Ajax” or “Jackass”

A T  “Johnny Moss” Named after legendary poker player Johnny Moss.

A 8  “Dead Man’s Hand” “Wild Bill” Hickock held two pair, Aces and Eights, when he was fatally shot.

A 3  “Baskin Robbins” because of their 31 different flavors of ice cream. (an Ace is also a 1, making 31 for 31 flavors)

A 2  “Hunting Season” Aces are known as bullets and twos are known as ducks, therefore, hunting season.

Hands with a king:

K Q  “Marriage” or “Divorce” if it doesn’t hold up.

K J   Suited “Kojak”

K J   Offsuit “Kojak” or “Bachelor’s Hand” because it is literally jack king off.

K T  “Katie”

K 9  “Canine” Because K9 sounds like Canine or “What a Dog” or “Fido”

K 8  “Kokomo” or “Kate” (Kate” for phonetic reasons)

K 3  “King Crab”

I hope you got them all! Look for my next post where I’ll cover poker hand nicknames for starting hands with a queen or a jack in them.
